What does the "Update database" option trigger on Commerce Cloud?

Hi,

We are using Commerce Cloud and we found little information about what is triggered when you select the "Update database" option in a new deployment.

According to the documentation, the types are updated and Solr Indexes are rebuilt, but it doesn't say anything about Impexes. So we were wondering if selecting this option would trigger Essential Data update, Project Data update, patches, or any kind of Impex execution at all, or if this still has to be manually done.

Thanks!

Hi,

When you update the database using Database Update ,during a deployment, the following actions occur -

The background processing and Backoffice aspect are scaled down to prevent CRON jobs from running during the update.

An admin instance of SAP Commerce is launched to clone the existing type system, update the type system based on the new build, and run any data migration steps.

Solr indexes are rebuilt and the update completes.

When the update is successful, a rolling update is performed for the instances of the storefront and API services.

If the update fails, it is reported as a failed deployment. The user is not impacted since the storefront and API services stay up during the update.

Background processing and Back-office come back up.

If the update is successful, the old type system is removed and deployment completed.
