Variant Configuration KMAT Item Category TAC not relevant for Picking in OVLP

Hi Gurus,

I created a configurable KMAT material 0002 for Sales pricing configuration. In my Sales order, my material appears as a TAC item category (this is maintained via VOV4: a combination of Sales doc type + Item Group 0002).

While doing my Outbound Delivery, I cannot do Picking as it is greyed out. In OVLP, I can see that TAC is not configured relevant for picking from standard SAP settings. And I want to understand the logic/reason why are we not supposed to be able to do Picking for TAC materials from this standard-setting?

Also, could somebody give a clear explanation in which situation do we create either a KMAT or FERT + material configurable option for configuration materials?

FERT applies to make-to-stock (MTS)
