Update of E-Mail address with automatic marketing permission update

Dear SAP community,

we have connected sales cloud to marketing cloud with unidirectional processing for core data. All core data of accounts and contacts will be managed in sales cloud. In marketing cloud customizing we set the marketing permission settings to explict, so if new contacts will be created in sales cloud and transfered to marketing cloud, the E-Mail-address for the new contact is marked as opt-out in first way (which is correct).

Sometimes the ending of different E-Mail-adresses for different contacts of a company changes (because of new domains at customers) and will be corrected in sales cloud and of course tranfered to marketing cloud. For the marketing cloud a change in existing E-Mail-address to a known contact will be handled as a new one, so the marketing permission will be changed into opt-out.

Is there a opportunity to avoid this behavior? Because we have to set the opt-in or upload the opt-in for every changed E-Mai-address manually, which can be very uncomfortable if many E-Mail-addresses changes during a year.

Thanks in advance,

Lukas

Hello Lukas,

I dont think we can control this with any configuration or custom logic in Marketing but may be you can try to acheive this in Integration to update the permission as well for such contacts by adding an additional conditions in CPI .

Hi Lukas,

good question. We have the same use case and until now we do not have and "automation". I fear there is no chance to automate that process because regarding GDPR it is the correct behavior and the Opt-In has to be given for a specific email-address. How should the system decide for which change a new Opt-In is okay (e.g. from abc-gmbh.com to abc-gmbh.de) and for which change it is not allowed.

But I'm very interested in that topic, let's see if anyone else has an idea how to deal with that 🙂
