Transport Done Directly in BW Production

I have done some changes to a transfer rule in BW Dev and Transported to BW Quality. All good. However when we try and bring it into BW Production I get an error because the object (and numerous other objects!) are locked in an old BWP transport (Done several years ago - not by me I might add!).

My initial though was to release the old BWP transport and then bring in my transport. I understand that there is potential that what ever has been done directly in BWP will now be overwritten - the text of the transport is "Activation" so I'm hoping its not too much of a change. However when I try to release the transport it gives numerous errors "Transportable Object XXXXXX needs local object" etc.

How should I proceed with this? My next thought is to go to SE03 and Unlock the transport and delete. Are there any consequences if I do that?
