Tracking the 'Forwarding rate/email sharing'

Hello SAP community,

Do you know if the tracking of Forwarding rate/email sharing is possible with SAP Marketing cloud:

  • Which means, if a contact receives an email from us and then share it with other contacts/friends, we can track it.

Or there is a KPI we can use even after integrating it with Analytics Cloud?

I looked for anything related but could not find.

Hello Asma,

We don't have such a feature as of now , but we have a similar Influence Request existing in the portal

Hi Asma,

usually if you send out emails with SAP Marketing Cloud and enable the link tracking via Outbound ID, the link includes an ID that identifies the Contact that clicked the mail.

So, if the Contact forwards the mail to a colleague and the colleague clicks the link, that interaction will also be assigned to the Contact that received the email. As per my knowledge you won't be able to see if the Contact himself or anyone he forwarded the mail to clicked the link. If you don't have the other Contacts in your MC system, where should the interactions be assigned in your opinion?

Which data do you want to track or what is the use case behind? What is your process that you would like to realize? Maybe we could find any workaround.

Our client asked if such a feature or KPI is available on Marketing cloud. Here is what it may help them with:

  • The rate of email sharing: This metric is particularly interesting, as it reflects a higher-than-average level of enthusiasm for your content. If someone forwards one of your emails, you can be sure they find the relevant content.

But, for now, we will rely on the link tracking via Outbound ID.
