Does anyone have experience of sending things like sales order confirmations and bonus account notifications via SAP Marketing Cloud?
Reasons:
One obvious concern is performance impact as number of transactional messages might be huge.
What else might be a problem?

Hi,
I have an Idea open for that since almost 2 years: https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/idea/210647/?section=sectionDetails.
And I noticed that there's finally something on the Roadmap about it: https://www.sap.com/belgie/products/roadmaps/finder-all.html?sort=title_asc&search=marketing&pdf-ass... "Use content studio to design beautiful, “on-brand” templates for transactional mailings such as invoices, receipts, order confirmations, returns, and more. Mash up with additional marketing messaging (such as recommendations, calls to further action)."
It's for "Q3 and beyond", but I'm very curious to see how it will work!
But until that gets implemented, today there are quite some limitations to sending transactional mails
- System uptime. Every 3 months, it goes down for a couple of hours during the weekend for upgrade. So not sure what would happen with transactional mail triggers that come in during that downtime
- Data. All variable data that should be in your email, should be stored in marketing cloud somehow. So the product name, description, ordered quantity, price, price reductions, VAT, expected delivery date, whatever should be in the email. That's typically more info than what you normally store in a marketing system.
- 1-to-multi objects: on 1 order, you mostly order multiple products. Marketing Cloud's emails aren't good at handeling 1-multi data, it gets concatenated. For Abandoned Card there is a separate object type in the Old content studio (not yet in the New one, aka email Lite), maybe that could be used for Orders as well but I'm not sure
