Segmentation strategies and operations - target Group

Hello Experts,

I have a bit rare scenario to support my customer. - The scenario is - Initially , users create a target list for say 100 members, they cap the target list with 100 members(dynamic). But with time, there is a possibility that the new members can be added and also members can be reduced, But the total cap will be 100 only.

Business wants to ensure that if the count of members are increased/decreased from 100, then the members which are still valid from initial target list should be there, but the remaining members should be added from the newly joined members.

example - Initially the list has 200 members, users wants to target 100, they kept a filter reduce randomly 100. this 100 members are initial list for different business process with time.

Now with time there are few leavers example - 10 members, and 50 joiners. Now business wants to keep the members target to 100 with keeping 90 from the original list(since 10 left the target group) and 10 from new members list. Is this possible to create such a target strategy in advance?

I can do this target strategy for instant TG creation and running a campaign. But if i want to create the target group for the above scenario well in advance( 6 months), it seems not possible. the reason being is that we dont know the count of joiners and leavers beforehand..

Any idea how the reduce randomly picks the record from the backend? Is it possible to keep conditions on the target segment to be only say 100, and get the accounts from second segment if the 100 count is not reached while merging these two segments?

Any suggestion or advise is appreciated.

BR, Mayank

Hi mitmayank_bluleader. If I understood that correctly, the exact escenario you mentioned is not possible since you have no way to say "get 100 random contacts from this segment X and if it's not enough, get the rest from the segment Y". Because whenever you cannot get "100 - X" contacts from Y.

A possible solution could be having the initial target group (segment X), merge that with the segment Y and get 100 random from there. What you can do to "minimize" the random mix could be: set a max of 20 or 30 from segment Y, then combine that with segment X and then get the random 100 you want. There is a possibility that you could get all the 20 or 30 from the segment Y, because it's a random selection 🙂 This will be a combination of reduce randomly from Y, merge X and reduced Y, and then reduce randomly again.

If the segment X is a target group, you'll need to rebuild that target group periodically, in order to get the updated version each time. To do that you can use the Marketing Job called "Target Groups: Trigger Rebuild".

Let me know if you have more questions or you need any help. Good luck 🙂

bruno.alejandro : Thanks for your comment. We have already suggested the above approach, the could achieve the requirement, if user is happy to update the segment a day before the campaign run and the target group will be rebuild.

I thought same as it is not possible. let me confirm to user as well!!
