Dear Experts,
in our segmentation, you can choose between (for example) "Country/Region" and "Country/Region User-Defined Text" for some attributes.
Can someone explain to me where this user-defined text comes from? Is there a use case?
Thanks in advance!
Katharina

Hello Katharina,
there are several attributes that have a fixed code list in system and when such data is loaded and not fitting to the defined codes, then the payload is rejected. This are for example the country, the departments, the functions etc.
To be more robust, we introduced the user defined text fields, that can pick up any texts which then are mapped against the fixed codes in the Map Free Text App. Then for example, you can map DE, GER, Deutsch to the country Germany. When this is maintained, the loaded data always fills the fixed code list fields based on the mapping of the free text app. So you load with GER in the user defined text field and the record then has the country field filled with Germany and still keeps the user defined field with GER.
When loading data from systems that haven't a defined good data quality, we would always recommend to map against the free text fields to be more robust. On segmentation side and also when working with conditions in the email editor we would however recommend to go against the fixed code lists (not the xx user defined text fields) because the data is cleaner and more condensed.
Best regards
Michael
