Hello All,
i have a question for a general system behaviour.
In which case flags the system a contact for deletion?
We have a couple of contacts in the system who are flagged for deletion (set by the system). And when we want to send new data (for example a new email adress) to the marketing cloud for a flagged contact, then we get an error that the contact is flagged for deletion and we can not update this business partner.
Can anybody explain me when exactly the system marks a contact for deletion?
Thanks in advance.

Caro

Hi Carolin,
is there an application job running which marks the contacts for deletion?
Usually the process is
- Set a contact to obsolete if you don't need it anymore --> this can be done for example via setting the contact to obsolete in your CRM-system (e.g. SAP Sales Cloud; a sales employee sets a contact person to obsolete because he knows that he left the company. This status is then replicated to SAP Marketing Cloud)
- Flag the obsolete contact (or any contacts defined by your criteria) for deletion --> this can be done via application job or if you manually click on delete in the Contacts app.
- Delete flagged contacts
I'm not aware of any case that the system itself flags contacts without the application job or that someone clicked on delete button.
The system behavior, that you cannot update contacts that are marked for deletion, is correct. The data is archived and cannot be used for marketing activities anymore

Hello c.stoecker,
One example I can think of is where end-user chooses to delete his account permanently, in such case the contacts will be flagged for deletion by system.
So let's contacts are being replicated from Commerce to Marketing and a user decides to delete his account in commerce will also be set to deletion based on user action.
Another reason may be a Scheduled Job in your system
thank you.
best regards,
Kunal
