Hi All,

I need some hints and tips for my technical questions.

We're currently running our SAP (Hybris) Marketing on prem with version 1702.
Now we're starting to plan our upgrade to 1709 SP01.

As the upgrade guide doesn't include the upgrade process, if have some questions:

  • Are there any further documents for the upgrade?
  • Are there any issues we can avoid in forehand?
  • SAP strongly recommend to use HANA 2.0 SP02. Nevertheless can we use SP03 latest revision?
  • Other topics to keep in mind when doing this upgrade?

I've split up my questions to 2 entries, other one is about system copy.

TIA for your answers
Roland

Hi Roland,

you can always upgrade directly to a certain release without upgrading to potentially existing intermediate releases. So, you upgrade to 1709 SP01 directly.

In addition to the upgrade guide, the corresponding release information note (RIN) is a mandatory source of information (also linked several times in the upgrade guide). In your case: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/1933146

Best regards,

Jens

Thx, Jens,

for claryfing, that was also my understanding.

In Note 1933146 under Preconditions for 1709 SP01, the HANA release should really stay on SP02?
Extract from note: We strongly recommend to use only SPS02 Revisions for SAP Hybris Marketing 1709 (SP01)

Hi Roland,

yes, this sentence from the RIN is true.

It means that the content of SAP Marketing 1701 SP01 is validated on HANA 2.0 SPS02. It is not validated on higher revisions of the HANA database. So, you could try to use HANA 2.0 SPS03 but this is on your own risk. It is possible but not guaranteed that everything runs smoothly in such an environment.

Best regards,

Jens

Upgrade Guide is quite comprehensive in regards the upgrade. You do the upgrade as you would for any other Netweaver system and then follow up the Upgrade Guide. We have done the on-prem system upgrade twice and both times we had issues and had to contact SAP support. We are scared from upgrades now 🙂

Thx Maris,

that makes me a little bit nervous. We hope that the upgrade will run smooth as we doesn't have much scenarios live.

We had the discussion internally, wether the upgrade will go to SP01 directly or via upgrade to SP00 and apply SP01 later. From my point of view the first one (directly) will be the right one.

Do you can also give same infos about the timeline for your upgrade.

Thx
Roland

In theory it shouldn't take much time. You should be able to finish the upgrade and post-upgrade testing in 2-3 weeks for all systems.

Issues that we had in the past - fiori apps not working (problems with services) and something with hana content activation during the upgrade. I don't know technical details of the latter.

I think that upgrade from 1702 to 1709SP01 should not bring significant changes, meaning upgrade should be simpler. We both times were making quite large jumps between versions and that could be a reason why we had technical issues.
