What is the difference between Lead and Opportunity?
Request clarification before answering.
In general:
Leads: A lead is a business transaction which describes, stores, updates, and manages the potential interest of (and interaction with) a business partner over a certain timeframe. In other words, a lead represents a potential chance to make business.
Leads can be created from Marketing Campigns. Than these leads are classified as Hot. Warm or Cold, based on their interest.
Oportunities:
A Hot lead converts into Opportunity. i.e. A Business partner who showed more interest in buying ur products becomes a prospect. While following up with a prospect a sales representative performs may activities like conducting meetings, presentation, discussions etc, and may be giving a proposal.
In the system all these in Mapped in the sales Assistant Tab. We also have Buying Centre tab where all the formal and informal relationship of the contact persons, propests can be maaped.

Trying to summarise the excellent details provided above:
1.When you capture the initial interest of buying a product/service, You name it as a Lead in C4C.
After contacting that prospect buyer/customer, once you are sharing the product details along with some underlying specifications/requirements, You call it an Opportunity.
Example: Getting online query for upcoming IPhone model captured as Lead, Discussing or helping the enquiry to note down the IPhone specification along with features, is an Opportunity.
2.Compare to Lead, Opportunity is more close/probable to be converted in Sales Order.
3.Mostly Products/Prices are part of Opportunity but in Lead you can find the questionnaire, customer interest etc.
