Hi Ichu Mon,

To speak in generic terms, a 'Lead' is a potential customer or prospect. Generating a lead is often the first step of the sales process. Leads generally are designed to store all known information on lead, including company name, address, contact details and the leads' current position in the sales funnel.

A company that sells products may generate a Lead through various channels -

For example: A company selling Smartphones which may show you targeted ads on social media, and obtain your interest information via a webform. At this stage, you have still not bought a Product from that company, but you seem likely to be a potential customer based on the interest levels you expressed in the form.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Nishanth

Hi ichu1234,

Lead is the core component of Lead to Cash process which comprises the following basics steps:

Contact-to-Lead, Lead-to-Opportunity, Opportunity-to-Quote, Quote-to-Order and Order-to-Cash

I would highly recommend you invest 2 hours of you time and take this "Lead to Cash" Opensap course:
