What is master data? Why work center is called as a master data?

HI ichu1234,

Master data is the data that provides context for Business transactions.
Eg: Account,Contact,Product,Employee etc.

Work centers are just UI views and not master data. Master data that are stored in backend can be visualized from Work center views.

Workcenter just groups views that are specific to certain business processes

Is it possible to delete the master data? I'm getting only block and obsolete status...

No...It is not possible to delete the data.
