Hi,

In nutshell, wholesalers can sell their articles on better price as they are selling in bulk, that can reduce the handling time and other costs impacting the final price otherwise. A wholesaler usually provides large quantity of articles, often they can be also the manufacturer of these articles at the same time.

A retailer sells articles directly to the customers for a profit. Some retailers may be the manufacturer also, but can more often procure the articles from a distributor or a wholesaler. They sell their articles therefore at a higher price due to markups.

There are lot of good sources on the net focusing on the comparison of these two industry sectors.

Best regards,
Andras

What I could see usually, separate distribution chains are setup for wholesale and retail, and by doing so, a site may offer both. The Distribution channel distinguishes the prices. I'm not sure, whether this answers you question.
