Product Catalog Sync overwriting values in target

We are syncing from default:Online to salesOrg:Stage catalog.

Products come form ECC - are placed into both catalogs.

We created a DefaultCatalogVersionSyncJob to handle this.

Have the removeMissingItems set to false - expectation is that items that exist in target will not be overwritten by source if source does not have a value.

So in our case target has sapPlant set, source does not. When we run the Sync Job from back office - the results is that sapPlant is now null.

Is this a know bug? Any solutions as to what is going on here.

If we set removeMissingItems to true - won't this then remove the items in the target that do not exist in the source?

What I would like to do is to preserve the item in the target if it does not exist in the source.

I went ahead and changed the sync rules in the SyncAttributeDescriptionConfig so it will not sync that attribute.
