Dear SAP experts,
We encountered a problem when using offers with assigned target groups.
Could you say: what is the reason for the restriction of the standard functionality of SAP marketing, which does not allow sending offers with assigned TGs in campaigns? We plan to limit all offers to each target audience and in the future to recommend offers to customers using the "Offer Recommendation" service, but this restriction does not allow us to send offers to customers.
The case of sending offers with assigned target group through offer recommendations is very costly, because for each action (and for each communication channel) we will need to create own type of recomendation model and recommendation scenario.
We would like to change this restriction via ABAP intervention: what processes in the system can this affect?
Thank you for your help.
Best Regards,
Alexei

Hi Alexei,
I hope this helps clear things up.
The reason for requiring that offers with target groups be used in conjunction with recommendation scenarios is to avoid the eventuality that a user adds an offer with an assigned target group to an email and then uses that email in a campaign with a different assigned target group. Therefore, in this case it is possible for contacts to receive offers in emails which they are not eligible for. A way to avoid this is to make sure that your campaign has the same target group as the offer, but this makes the offer’s assigned target group redundant and requires you to create an unnecessarily large amount of campaigns (instead of using X number of offers in one campaign, you now need X number of campaigns for X number of offers). To avoid this, we require that you use a recommendation scenario when using offers with target groups. In this case, the service can look for the best offer and if nothing is returned, the email will either not render the Offer recommendation block, or you can choose that the email not be sent at all. In this case, for your X number of offers you need just one campaign and one recommendation model which will return the offer with the correct target group, and the possibility that a contact receives an offer for which he is ineligible is avoided. Also, of you want to do this over multiple communication mediums, you only have to create a recommendation scenario for each communication medium (which is not intensive) and then assign each scenario the model that you designed earlier.
In response to your question about altering this via ABAP intervention, changing this behavior would be a major redesign of the whole offer application and its integration into the email. There is no simple way of changing this and can have all sorts of side effects during the email creation process.
Thank you,
Ryan
