Not able to set collection as reference of other canonical item in Hybris 1808

If I refer other canonical item and set the canonical item as collection(item which is referring to other item), I am getting following error in logs:

Attribute XYZ.ABC cannot set a value of type HashSet

There is no Hybris 6.8 afaik. Can you attach your log file?
