Move attribute from item child to parent

Hi all,

I need to move/redeclare an attribute from Order item to AbstractOrder (hence from the sub-item type to the parent one). The reason is that I need this attribute also for a Cart item type.

Is it possible to do that or do I have to declare the field in Cart item type instead? If it is possible, what happens to the orders placed before this change?
