Issues with categories of variant products replicated from SAP Retail

Hi Experts,

we have several issues with the replication of variant article master data from SAP Retail to Commerce (1808) via DataHub. We're on B2C accelerator using the Apparel Store sample data and have the Integration Pack for Retail in place.

1) Variant Selector on Product Details Page

Generic article and variants are replicated to Commerce as multidimensional products. On the product details page, the options in the variant selector dropdown only show stock and price of the variant options. The categories, that make up the variants (like size and color, coming from characteristics in SAP Retail), are not displayed there. We also can see this behaviour for the multidimensional sample products in the Powertools Store. It seems like the accelerator storefront does not consider the VariantCategories and VariantValueCategories, that are assigned to the variants as supercategories.

2) SAP characteristics in Solr Facet Search

The SAP merchandise hierarchy and the assigned characteristic profiles / characteristics are replicated to a seperate classification catalog in Commerce (`ERP_CLASSIFICATION_026` by default). When we do a fulltext search in the shop and there is a product from SAP in the search result, the following error is thrown in the log:

Category with code 'XYZ' not found! (Active session catalogversions: ...)

From this error, we can see that the ERP_CLASSIFICATION_026:ERP_IMPORT catalog version is not considered as active session catalog version. In consequence, the VariantCategories and VariantValueCategories of the variants are not available in the Solr facet search, which is in turn why we get the abovementioned error. ERP_CLASSIFICATION_026:ERP_IMPORT is assigned to both base store and index.

From the multidimensional products in the Powertools Store we can see, that the variant-creating VariantCategories and VariantValueCategories usually reside in the same product catalog version as the product itself. This is not the case for variant articles replicated from SAP Retail - at least in our case.

Has anybody come across these issues? Are we missing something?

Thanks in advance, Dominik
