Is there any way to hide a custom field/attribute in hmc?

We have an attribute A showing in hmc product's administration tab. Now we want to use attribute B and C to serve similar purpose but we want to keep the A for now. We want to hide the old A in both backoffice and hmc. Backoffice is done through a "hidden for UI" setting. But the same setting doesn't have the same effect in hmc. How can I hide an attribute in hmc? Thanks.
