iFrame - to be or not to be?

Guys,

can you please share your experience with iFrames and integrating 3-rd party widgets/components into hybris front-ends?

Here are some questions i wonder about:

  • What should we know about using iFrames in hybris front-ends?

  • What are they good for and when to avoid them?

  • Any PROS and CONS?

  • What alternatives do you use?

  • Would you consider using CMS components to wrap the functionality provided by the 3rd party via a script or API?

I know it is a generic question, but - for that - please share examples to help understanding what works in a hybris context and what not.

Thank you !

Atanas

Hi,

I agree with , we use it as well.

Quick Pros/Cons

Pros:

  • easy and fast to integrate

  • responsibility is on the 3rd party

Cons:

  • You can't modify the markup ...

  • ... it may change from time to time without warning and break in your font-ends

The alternative is, if the 3rd party is exposing an API, you can make your component/Controller/Service/Script/etc using it. It can be more tuned to you're need but it definitely will take more time to implement. And if something goes wrong the error can be either on your side or on their side, so debugging may be more difficult.

Depending on the what kind of service you want, you may want to go for the iframe.

Btw: You need to check that your iframe is using https if you are

I use them all the time for embedding youtube videos. Works very well. The iframe just sits inside a paragraph component.
