How to troubleshoot business process

How can one troubleshoot, and debug a business process that is not loading correctly? I run a groovy script to emulate the loading of the process. I get the following error: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "java.util.Set.iterator()" because "tmp" is null

And a very large stacktrace that does not lead me to the root cause.

So any help would be great

Attaching the full stack trace might help - usually in case of NPEs it helps to pinpoint the location of the exception which can be more meaningful than the message itself.

Also it would help if you attached the groovy script that you use to start the process (I assume that this is what you mean by loading?).
