how to add a new marketing attribute to an existing account using data workbench

Dear Community,

We have a requirement to add newly added Marketing Attributes to the existing accounts. Since its a mass update, we tried using Data Workbench.

We tried using the import function (Complete business object) for object Attribute assignment.
The template has a column where we are supposed to give the External Key (business partner) to which the marketing attribute has to be linked. If we are entering an existing external key in this, an error is being thrown stating "The business partner already exists". This External Key is a mandatory field for this template but we believe this import function is attempting to create a new BP instead of updating the existing one.

Is there a way we can update existing accounts with a new marketing attribute?

Note: If an account already has a marketing attribute, then we can update a new one but if the account does not contain any marketing attributes, we are facing difficulties to add them.
