How the Lead Duplicate Check of Source works ?

I see these config settings in C4C Sales. Can somebody tell me how these work behind the Scene. I mean what is the logic these settings execute and what functionality they provide. I tried searching 1711 Admin guide and help center but there is no detail listed.

I know the way it works for Accounts. There is no documentation for this Lead configuration usage. I am looking something specific to this.
