Emarsys for both Marketing and Transactional Notifications

Hi Team,

I want to confirm if it is a best practise to use the Emarsys system for both Marketing Campaigns as well as transactional email notifications to customers ( Order shipped , delivered etc ) , I can see that we have to sync even Guest customers from Commerce to Emarsys for this case , is there any drawbacks( like this may increase the contact count in Emarsys which may again increase the license cost ) in this approach or we can go ahead with a single Emarsys tenant for all these activities without using any seperate Email distribution system ( eg Sendgrid ) which can reduce additional cost to client ?

Hi sarvan007,

From my perspective, Emarsys is designed for both transactional and marketing oriented actions. Each company handle the context you mentioned in a different way. For example, I have participated in projects were all marketing campaigns were handled through Emarsys, and transactional emails through the eCommerce platform distribution capabilities. But, many others have the final objective of migrating all their communications into Emarsys.

I believe that having all communications centralized in Emarsys:

  • Allows consistency in communications
  • Reduce team effort
  • Let you centralize all engagement analytics in an unified platform
  • Enable you to innovate in creating transactional and marketing journeys to, for example, de-anonymize guest clients.

All this generates cost savings and revenue opportunities.

However, to estimate a business case for the specific scenario that you present, I suggest you to contact directly SAP to determine and quantify the cons and pros of having everything in a unified platform, or using different systems.

I hope this input partially answers your question.

Best,

Juan Cabrera
