Please let me know what is difference between Activity, oppurtunity, lead.
Thanks,
Ravi
Request clarification before answering.
Hi,
Would like to add some points for opportunity:
1. Opportunity is part of Sales while Lead is part of Marketing.
2. Opportunity transaction is triggered/created if the lead is qualified as hot - that means worth pursuing.
3. There are two types of Opportunity Transactions
- General Opportunity transaction used for existing customers
- sales methodology used for new customers.

deepak

About Activity
Activity Management is an integral part of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and administers all activities undertaken by your company's employees. Any data saved in an activity is an important source of information that needs to be accessed by all relevant employees.

Activities can be Telephone Call, Customer Call, Preparation of presentation, Giving Presenation, Follow-Up Calls, etc. Activites are associated will all processes & these activities may be mandatory or optional.
Lead Management are capturing of prospects as lead, & based on Cold, warm or hot status, the sales force can be optimally utilized. If the Lead becomes Hot, then it is converted into Opputunity, which would mean that the changes of Prospect converting into Customer is high.

hi Ravi
to tell you the difference w.r.t the business scenario
a lead is a potential opportunity to be tapped ,whenever a new customer shows intrest in your business ,business looks at it as an opportunity
now coming to the CRM terminology the prospect to be qualified as customer it has to go through the LEAD qualification,so first sales prospect is generated inside the system and then it is converted into the lead
and thoroght the entire process it goes thorugh for the complete qulaification
next phase when lead is qulaified as hot it si converetd into the opportunity and once it is tapped it is accepted by the slaes team
now regargding the activity
well it is performed before lead,in between lead or after lead,or even an activity can be a normal routine activity
activity is an application to optimise the process flow inside the system
best regards

Hi Ravi,
With Respect to the system (Configurations):
Actvities, Leads, Opprtunities transaction type have a different leading transaction category, which in turn differntiates the screens of the respective transaction.
The Leading Transaction Categories are assigned in the customization of the transaction type (Tcode: CRMC_PROCESS_MA)
And than this their are many other differences in configurations.
In general:
Leads: A lead is a business transaction which describes, stores, updates, and manages the potential interest of (and interaction with) a business partner over a certain timeframe. In other words, a lead represents a potential chance to make business.
Leads can be created from Marketing Campigns. Than these leads are classified as Hot. Warm or Cold, based on their interest.

Oportunities:
A Hot lead converts into Opportunity. i.e. A Business partner who showed more interest in buying ur products becomes a prospect. While following up with a prospect a sales representative performs may activities like conducting meetings, presentation, discussions etc, and may be giving a proposal.

In the system all these in Mapped in the sales Assistant Tab. We also have Buying Centre tab where all the formal and informal relationship of the contact persons, propests can be maaped.
Activities:
You can use Activity Management at any time during the CRM life cycle. The business activities keep a record of any interaction that has taken place between your company and its customers.

Wish this helps.

Hi Ravi
Lead could be explained as any new inquiry that comes directly to a company, could have come as an inquiry as part of a campaign/roadshow/internet mailer..etc that you might have conducted...
Any new lead that has come as such, could form the basis for your order in future....
Once you have the lead..it is upto the company and the respective employee/s assigned to follow-up on the same to convert the same into an opportunity...
towards this the employee might have to do certain things like..call up the customer, make a presentation, demonstrate their products, have internal meetings, schedule appointment, prepare presentations etc...
all such things the employee does are classified under Activity Management in CRM, distinguished as Tasks and Activities..while tasks are internal, Activities involve the customer..
Based on the qualification of the lead, some of these steps would be followed in order to convert the lead..into an opportunity..an opportunity is in-turn a document in CRM which represents a higher rate of probability of getting the order from the customer..
hope this clears the air and helps.

Ashwin
