Hi Experts,

When I am trying to create new BP it is throwing an error message that

" Grouping ZEM has external number assignment, enter a number "

and when i am trying to see the Error information, it is showing that

Grouping ZEM has external number assignment, enter a number

Message no. R1091

Diagnosis

The business partner needs a key to identify it. This key was not specified.

System Response

The system issues an error message.

Procedure

Enter a key in the dialog. If it is a background process or an XML message process, contact your system administrator.

So can any one Explain it what is this Issue?

Thanks,

Krishna.

if grouping is external number assignment, then you need to manually enter number for that bp, which will be used to identify that bp uniquely. if it is a internal number assignment, system will automatically creates a number for bp depending upon number range. so enter the number manually and try to create it.

spro->cross application components->sap business partner -> business partner -> number ranges and groupings see this path. you will come to know.

Here is how it got resolved for me.

Goto user profile SU3 and in parameters enter BPP in Set/Get parameter ID and Grouping (whatever your grouping is mine was 0001) in Parameter value and save.

Posting this answer too late(in2023) but i hope it helps to people facing this issue coz i had tough time in this error.

This is the correct answer. I faced the error when I was trying to create the very first Business partner in a fresh S4HANA system. Chances are high that the error is resolved with this solution given you are trying in the fresh system because SU3 settings would be plain vanilla. I set the BPP parameter to BP02 (i.e.) standard BP Grouping & It let me enter into the BP creation screen.

Hi Folks,

I face the same issue, but after trying to reach "BP Grouping", I face Dynpro runtime error.

Any advise?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

You have a question and need help by the community? Instead of posting into an old question thread, it is more helpful for you, if you create your own question. Here is how to get started:

  1. Learn about asking and answering questions in SAP Community with this tutorial: https://developers.sap.com/tutorials/community-qa.html
  2. Ask your detailed question here: https://answers.sap.com/questions/ask.html
  3. Wait for a response.

That's it. Thank you!

Best regards

Great that you provided the OSS note Allan - All I needed to do was execute a clean up program (SE38)

BDT_CORR_003.

Once this was done I could go into the config for "Define groupings and assign number ranges" and select BP02 as the internal standard grouping then BP started to work as expected.

Hi Krishna,

The Number rage grouping you are using has an external number range assigned to it. So for creating a BP in this grouping you have to manually enter the BP number. Had it been an internal number range assigned to ur BP group ZEM, system would had manually created one.

Check the BP number range and Grouping in customization.

Hi Praveen / Anish Thanks for your response,

Could you please tell me how to change that range as non-default to BP, and also how to see by which user it has created and assigned?

Thanks,

Krishna.

Hi,

The node relating to number range and grouping is as follows

spro->sap img->cross-application compoment->sap business partner->business partner->basic setting->number range and grouping.

here u can find a node to create number range and another one to creat grouping and assign number ranges to it.

In the later, u can change the number range assigned to the group and set it as default group for BP.

As for how to find who created the grouping. I am not sure of the table which stores the info but assigning of number range to group prompts a customization request and sou maybe able to trace it.

Dear Anish,

Already some one has created the Grouping and assigned it as default for BP Creation, but now I have to change that Grouping as non-default to BP and assign my earlier group as Default. So Please Explain that process.

Thanks,

Krishna.

hi Krishna,

Go to SPRO>IMG>Cross-Application comp> SAP Business Partner>Business Partner>Basic Settings>Number ranges and Groupings>Define Groupings and Assign number ranges.

You will see the settings as in the image above. In the column "Int Std Groupng" select the grouping that you want to be default.
