Commerce 1808 - is this the end of DataHub?

Hi everyone I'm going through the Commerce 1808 release notes and saw an interesting addition related to CPI (SAP Cloud Platform Integration).

https://help.hybris.com/1808/hcd/094915b06e9a43cb964518309d43ff21.html

Do you think that this could mean the end of the DataHub middleware, at least in the long term? It could make sense in a way, since at least on a high-level HCI/CPI accomplish the same middleware tasks.

Nicola,

There are really 2 different topics here: What is the future integration strategy for SAP Commerce, and what does this mean for Data Hub. Let me try to answer both of them.

What is the future integration strategy for SAP Commerce

Commerce integration strategy is based on public APIs. It leverages SAP Cloud Platform Integration (SCPI) for Master Data Synchronization and asynchronous Process Integration use cases. This is in line with both, SAP’s general integration strategy and the integration strategy of other C/4HANA products.

On top of this SAP Commerce Cloud offers pre-built integrations as SCPI integration packages. These packages are published on the SAP API Business Hub (https://api.sap.com). Additionally, the APIs will be published there as well.

SAP Commerce Cloud Integration APIs are OData APIs.

So what does this mean for Data Hub ?

As of today, customers have two options, if they want to take advantage from the pre-built integrations: Commerce Data Hub and SCPI (based on Integration APIs). This is a choice, which has to be made individually for each project. Certainly, strategic direction is SCPI (based on Integration APIs). As of now, there are no plans to deprecate the Data Hub.

I hope this helps...

We are using SAP commerce 2105 on premise version and still using Data hub without any issue.

Very interesting indeed! All of us who have worked more with the datahub seem to have a love/hate relationship with it. For straightforward replication of e.g. products and customers the new SCPI approach looks very appealing. I just wonder what kind of possibilities there are for customizing the standard templates or developing completely new integration on it? Also I would be very interested in hearing how this performs with very large amounts of data (e.g. products).

It is true that the datahub was originally released in really inmature state. I hope this is not the case with SCPI.

I'm with you on the performance part. Also, I hope there will be a streamlined/centralized/more user-friendly day-to-day interface for end-users, which has always been a huge pain (we got customers telling us SF-to-SAP integration has better end-user interface than SAP-to-SAP itself..)

This is my understanding as well from partner update session i was listening to a couple months ago in Stockholm. That there would be better tools that could be used. I think actually this could be a good idea because the data hub as always been trouble :)

I can only agree on this! I just think it would be a huge shift for the platform (and on the downside, a huge loss for companies like our who heavily invested in DataHub :D)

I agree with you in the investment part , a lot of time has been put in the software. But hopefully a more stable and better product in the future. Data hub might have been released too early but that is what could be said of all software :)
