Beside the technical differences the most distinguishing difference is that if you use the server-side outlook integration, users can just use the add-in and the technical setup is handled from the IT department. With the client-side add-in users need to understand how to install the add-in and do it on their own. Furthermore the client-side add-in needs to be updated from the users device with every release.
