C4C Can single and multiple territory assignment work side by side

I am partly referring to a question of a former member that has never been answered.

The sales territories and dedicated sales territories in the Sales Territoris facet in the account fascinate me.

Is it possible to use the scenarios single and multiple territory assignment in parralel?

In case you face a situation that one sales organisation in a specific country works with single territory assignment and another sales organisation in another country wants to work with multiple territory assignment, can multiple assignment be activated while the first sales organisation can still use their rules for automatic alignment. Or does changing to mulitple assignment mean that countries using single assignment need to select the territory from that moment forward also manually in accounts and transactions even if there is a rule that leads to 1 territory.
