Best practice to write contacts using the Marketing Cloud API_MKT_CONTACTS v4

What's the best practice to create or update a contact using API_MKT_CONTACTS v4

I can already read contacts with /GET but I don't know the correct procedure to create or update the contact using PUT or PATCH.

1. Should I use AditionalID and use PUT to write contacts.

2. Should I make another producedure first.

I like to create an API to be able to save contact data that I get through a bot in WhatsApp, maybe there is a better way to proceed
