To answer your questions:

  1. How B2BUnit and B2BCustomer Assignment Works:
B2BUnits are organizational entities in B2B commerce representing a business partner company. B2BCustomers are individual users belonging to these units.

In Backoffice, you can assign B2BCustomers to B2BUnits directly. This assignment is straightforward through the user interface where you can associate a customer to an organizational unit.

  2. Are Many B2BCustomer Assignments Possible?:
Yes, a B2BUnit can have multiple B2BCustomers assigned to it. Each B2BCustomer can belong to exactly one B2BUnit reflecting the organizational structure of the business partner.

  3. What is the Role of B2BUserGroup? Are They Mandatory?:
B2BUserGroups are similar to regular user groups but tailored for B2B scenarios. They encapsulate roles and permissions that can be assigned to B2BCustomers to define their functional capabilities and access rights within the e-commerce system.

They are not mandatory, but they are essential for managing permissions and roles. For security and functionality purposes, users should be grouped appropriately to ensure that they have the correct access levels.

  4. B2BCustomer is Called User in B2B Data Model?:

In SAP Commerce Cloud, the B2BCustomer extends the User model. It inherits the properties and behaviors of a User but introduces additional attributes specific to B2B scenarios like company affiliation and roles.

  5. User Groups are Also Called Roles in B2B?:
Yes, user groups align closely with the concept of roles. In B2B commerce, these user groups often map to business-specific roles that users have within an organization, defining their responsibilities and access within the platform.

  6. Why Are There Two Commerce Objects for the Same Person (B2BCustomer and Customer)?:

The distinction reflects different business models: B2B for business transactions and B2C for individual or consumer transactions. While a profile can potentially belong to both models, they are kept separate to maintain clear operational boundaries and functionalities.

This separation allows the system to differentiate transactional processes, business rules, and customization specific to B2B and B2C contexts.

  7. More Relationships Between B2BUnit and a Customer:

SAP Commerce Cloud allows extension of the data model. If additional relationships or attributes are needed between B2BUnit and customers, you can customize the model. OOTB, the primary relationship is direct assignment to one unit.

You can define custom attributes or create new associations based on your business requirements.

  8. Why Doesn’t Commerce Have a Contact Model in B2B Like in S/4 and C4 Org/Account?:

SAP Commerce Cloud focuses more on digital commerce capabilities rather than CRM functionalities, which S/4 and SAP C4C handle.

Commerce Cloud can be integrated with CRM systems where such contact models exist to complement its functionalities with CRM-specific capabilities.
