Recently I described the most important principles of the "My Accounts" app.

(In case you don't know the blog yet look here: http://scn.sap.com/community/crm/sales/blog/2014/09/26/fiori-my-accounts-makes-sense-to-implement-an...)

You are probably wondering if there is something similar that is good to know about the "My Contacts" app.

I would say, yes there is.

First let us look back:

The contact application in the CRM WebClient UI is quite similar to the individual account application. It offers many assignment blocks with information, such as activities, opportunities, and so on. This approach is very much driven by the needs of B2B, where sales representatives work with their contacts as being their customers. Sometimes you can even get confused as they often use the term "customer" for a contact. However not only this way of looking at contacts could be a reason for this kind of design but also the goal of the CRM WebClient UI to replace the SAP GUI. Just think about the business partner (BP) transaction in SAP GUI. Compared with that the representation and handling of account and contact data in the CRM WebClient UI is already a huge shift.

Now with Fiori the approach is different:

When looking at contact data in the "My Contacts" app you will get reminded to typical contact applications in smart phones. It is definitely not much data that is provided for a contact, more or less it is about name, communication data, function and department. In Fiori you really can call the "My Contacts" app the little brother of the "My Accounts" app. It is very different, very focused on the pure master data. "Little brother" because when looking at the pure master data it is very similar.

Actually I was very curious how the first Fiori customers would react to this approach: How many requirements would come up? Is this actually a reasonable approach?

Interestingly they seem to accept this approach as the right one. Perhaps so far?

For you this means:

  • Be aware of this different approach, the "My Contacts" app, the little brother.
  • In case you identify additional requirements for the "My Contacts" app please raise them. - It is still a "young" approach. We want to make sure that it is really reasonable and valuable for the sales representatives.
