In case you need another data point, I also got a big "Notification failed" message when logging in just now but the system seems to be "hallucinating" as everything still works as it should, including post this reply.
it was working fine yesterday but today I at first had troubles as my - correctly entered - password wasn't accepted during login via Firefox a couple of times. With the 4th or 5th try it was finally accepted but then the "Authentification Unsuccessful" message was displayed yet again. But I was logged in regardless and could access my notifications and - obviously! - write this response.
