During the final moments of a telephonic interview, I was caught off guard by a surprise question: “So, Sneha, how is life at Company A?” (where I was working at the time). I replied, “It’s going well.”
But then came the curveball: “If it’s going so well, why are you thinking of leaving such a good company?”
I paused for a moment, and with a smile, I responded, “Well, they say ‘Never burn bridges,’ so I’d like to keep it that way.”
The interviewer’s hearty laugh was a clear sign that my quick thinking and sense of humor had made an impression. It turned a challenging question into a memorable moment, and I believe it played a key role in making the interview a success.
Good idea. Excellent.
