I still remember my first job interview as an SAP consultant, sitting on a chair in front of a company's director. I was not that good at academics, and I did not even have shining grades.
So, the question was. Since you have mentioned learning foreign languages as one of your hobbies so what language have you learnt and from where?
My answer for that was, I am learning German language from various apps, YouTube, books and all the possible channels and I can at least understand some basics of it but still cannot speak it.
So, the follow-up question on it was. It does not even matter if you can't speak in German.
I replied, Actually, it makes me happy that I understand a foreign language and it will enable me to start a communication with foreign people and that is what I seek. And I am sure that I will learn to speak after interacting with people.
And then I got hired for that position 🙂
And eventually it helped me in in future as a SAP consultant. I think language is one of the barriers which can cause a fatal understanding issue.
So, I would like to advise that. Be honest in front of an interviewer as honesty is the best policy and accept who you are as an individual. It takes courage to digest the failure, but it will definitely teach you something. Be confident about whatever you know and have worked on. Also make it norm to say I do not know rather than bluffing about it. I think nobody is perfect and that is what makes us human being.
