Hi, experts.

I am a tiny ERP - MM consultant.

Some of company ask experience of heavy industry and other company ask experience of chemistry.

As a system consultant I assume I can handle the process of them only if we got a meeting. In any of industry field.

Because we are not a business consultant but a system consultant.

Is there something new that I could not be found?

Why company ask system consultant of experiences in various industry?

Please give me any of clue of that.

Thank you in advance.

Youn,

Systems Consultant Job Description | eHow

From the above link:

System consulting is a business activity that helps corporations review operating processes and information technology (IT) mechanisms, ensuring that such processes are adequate and functional. System consultants help firms improve process adequacy and functionality.

In order to review business activities, processes; it would be a very big advantage to know the business. Thus companies ask for such experience!

In the job market we call this domain experience!

Youn,

As I have worked in Logistics (Transportation, Warehousing, Order entry etc.) when I meet users for requirement gathering, I can understand the processes, the "pain-points" etc.

If you have not worked, then many a times, that is felt / noticed by the client (users) during these meetings; also you might not be able to "put your self in their shoes", to understand and give a good solution (process design)
