Dear ALL,
Myself Kiran from Bangalore, working as Software Developer(PHP/Mysql) having 3 year of total experience.
I always had a dream to learn some Technical modules like ABAP or BI and to become SAP consultant from my initial days of my career.
I also took opinions from SAP gurus through discussion forum,But they said in-order to enter into SAP field one should have domain experience . so i just dropped my idea of entering SAP field.
But after 3 years of programming , i just wanted to learn SAP ABAP/BI/BW , so i need to know answers for fallowing question.
1. Which one suites me either SAP ABAP or BI suites me ? Considering my past 3 years of programming experience?
2. What are the ways that i can enter in to SAP field in technical modules?
This is link to discussion that i had it in earlier days

Hi Kiran,
Since, you are developer, it is always good to start with SAP ABAP. However, the competition is very high.
Please just do not stop with ABAP. Once you have an year experience or so, please go to BI / BOBJ / HANA, currently which are hot in the market.
Your ABAP experience would be immensely help and you do not need to depend on ABAPers any more.
If you have ABAP + these analytic skills, then you are the best bet in the market.
All the best.
Kind Regards,
Ravi

i suggest do core abap then do bi so that it is good for you , that 's something like hybrid.
for bi reporting is needed. with out abap if you go for bi it will bit confusing.

Hi swadhin ,

Hii Kiran ,
I suggest you to Learn ABAP first as it will easier for you to start with it due to your Programming background and then after 2-3 years of Exp in ABAP go for SAP BW / BO as it is an Techno Functional
Module which would be very helpful take a big Leap in your Career .
Finally i would say nothing is easy or difficult in SAP it depends on your choice and love for Technology.

Hi Kiran,
at SAP level your eligible for SAP ABAP/BW/BO/HANA.
For those you don't need any domain exp. but you need small dbms concept and Sqls.
From you background your strong at Coding part. if you want to continue on coding wise go for ABAP.
ABAP - Is purely coding part with SQL concepts.
BW - Is reporting tool, we need to get data from source and do required manipulations during loading time. finally doing the report on available data at bw.
Along with us, you can check with your mates and relatives. Finally you can go which your intrested.
Thanks

Hi Raman ,
Thanks for your time and reply..
I have noted all your suggestions. Yes as you noted i have good experience in coding and like too
But you quoted there no need of domain exp to get into any of SAP ABAP/BW/BO/HANA, Is it possible for me to get in to SAP field in either any of mentioned module with my current coding experience provided good training.?
As others suggested to learn ABAP first So that working in BI makes easier. But my plan is to learn any one first and get job in that.
Please kindly answer
Thanks in advance
cheers

Hi,
I would Suggest to Go for SAP HANA and Backend BODS...

Hi Kiran,
Yes, if you like to continue coding, you can go head with SAP ABAP. Means you can easily understand logics and calculaitons thru coding wise.
ABAP/BW anything need to hard work, gain good knowledge from tainining program. keep on practises on IDES version system. Thru scn or mates, understand the real situtaions.
Seems like your planned to go with BW. yes you can. small bit abap was needed.
As you stated, not intrested pure coding, then as of now BW have better chances.
check with friends and relatives also. start learning.
Thanks

Hi Kiran,
Its really good to enhance ur technical skills. Also, as u already have good exposure of programming, ABAP will be nothing but learning new keywords etc. So I would suggest BI/BW as this can help u to move to HANA(HANA is future).

Hai Kiran,
First of all, SAP ABAP / BI / BW or Any domain in SAP if you are strong enough in the
subject, you always have good market value. Keep this in your mind..
Coming to your question- ABAP / BI , Eventhough you have considerable experience in PHP/SQL,
According to SAP you are a fresher. For a fresher, ABAP is the good choice.why bcoz, for SAP
BI-its little difficult to get job as there is very limited number of openings for FRESHERS in market
as compared to ABAP.
If you are highly Interested in BI/BW, later you can move into BI..thats not at all a problem..
Think of your own and Take Good decision..I wish you All the Very Best for you Future ..
Warm Regards,
Nellai Muthu..

You have mentioned very important point ie, Opening , In fact i had same question on my mind, But How about the opening for freshers if i go with ABAP ? But i heard its more difficult to get job in ABAP then BI/BW .. fully confused
Thanks & Regards,
Kiran

the Reliable People you know and take off..But I Clearly mention the market situation..Rest is in you

Hi Ivan,

Hi.
My suggestion would be to go with BI/BW with the knowledge of ABAP as this is the hot cake in the market and most of the companies prefer BI consultants with ABAP knowledge.
Anyhow you would require programming knowledge in BI as well so its always a good idea to learn ABAP as well.
As you are from programming background so i guess you will not have much issues learning ABAP.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kiran,
Since you have good and vast programming experience, you are well suited for ABAP domain. Also once you got two years of experience, then thats the highly right time to enter into BW Domain.
Then ABAP with BW is a very good combination and you can shine well there.
Thanks,
Umashankar
