Considering your background, if I am in your position, I should go with 1st option as a BI consultant.

For MM you have lot of consultants in the market, moreover, it looks, you do not have any domain knowledge, which would be a constraint to grow. Furthermore, for me ECC looks coming to a dead bed.

However, I am not discouraging you not to learn concepts of ECC, which could be useful in your BI life.

With BI you can extend toward BOBJ and HANA.

Thanks and Regards,

Ravi

As far as future job prospects go, there's really no way to differentiate. Both modules have a bright and prosperous future. The real question is which interests you most. When you're talking about a career, you're in it for the long haul. It will be your interest and passion for the subject matter that determines success or failure in the long run.

In terms of lifestyle, consulting typically involves more travel (which can be difficult on your personal life) but is usually compensated better. Opportunities for career advancement also typically differ between consulting and in-house support.

You might want to check out SAP Career Blog Links for more information and data for your decision. There's a blog on career paths there which you might find interesting.

Hope this helps!

Hello Ravi Sir,

I completed my SAP Certification successfully in BI7.0 last year November 2012.
I was promised  to have a wonderful career ahead as good placements are stored for me. Many people came congratulating me as if  i have achieved a big thing. I felt the same. But  to tell you frankly now i don't feel any good.
I studied  15 to 17 hours everyday and then with God's grace some how i could crack the exam.
But now i work as a contract employee in an MNC past six months. No Organisation came up  giving an opportunity. All want experienced guys. But then why was it  told that as a fresher you must have a certification.
On the other side, my fellow friends who certified in PP, MM, they got permanent positions in some companies. They made me know of their jobs and i ended up with dismay that i should not have jumped in such  an expensive module (BI)  paying over 3.5 lakhs  while belonging to a lower middle class family. Now i work with half of the salary  as  compared to permanent employee.
I dint mind much about the salary though but dont i even deserve to get a permanent position?
Educating  oneself and clearing such a exam doesnt seem any worth. But the companies recruiting freshers from colleges are much worthy.

I used to go through your blogs and Chirag's whenever i needed inspiration while i was preparing for Certification,  thanks for all that, it was very motivating. But the real picture is now in front of me and its too different than good books. Please pardon me if i have written something  explicit.

Sincerely,
Aparajit

Hi Aparajit,

I can understand when you get less salary how painful inside it is. But, please do not think much about the salary bit. You keep concentrate on learning whatever best you can in your current job and keep your eyes open on the market. It does not mean you are going to work for less salary in your life. You can surely going to get better opportunities. Meanwhile, if you get an opportunity, try to learn Business Objects, HANA type of skills which are hot in the market. It is only matter of time, nothing else. So do not take anything personal, you are going to make it big. Keep learning, it is the key for success.

All the best.

Kind Regards,

Ravi
