What's next for a MM Consultant

Hi All,

I am requesting for expert Guidance to choose next level of my career.

I am a MM consultant having 8 years of  experience which mostly involves support projects.

For a brief period of time I moved to project management then its mostly involved reporting work & not relevant to my Core SAP.

Now I am planning to learn new skill of SAP.

Could you please guide me which latest SAP Skill I should learn & what would be the future prospect of it.

How much it will cost in India & whether online classes will be possible from authorized training partner.

After reading what you have said can you please answer that after a career of 8 years in SAP MM why you are not taking it further? Learning new skill is great but choosing a different career is a typical point. In my opinion as you have already spent 8 years working in MM platform, then should continue with this module. By the way if you want to choose a new module then you can go for SAP PP/ SAP WM/ SAP QM. Please let me know if it helps!

You can go for SAP SRM or SAP WM...Both will add value to your MM Experience.

Regarding the Training, Authorized Training Partners do have VLC - Virtual Learning Center.

First of all, I am not sure, how far, you have mastered in MM though you mentioned, you worked for 8 years.  To be honest, you would have gained MM knowledge for about 30% only I would say.  So you have to put more hard work on a regular basis and try to explore more MM areas to cover up the remaining 70%.  I am also not sure, how far, you got exposed to EWM which is a great demand in the market.  Apart from this, you should also be familiar with integration with other modules like SD & FI.  If you are from India, then most importantly, you have to learn CIN part also

For example, what should be his/her objective, mindset? What should s/he try to achieve everyday, for his/her work/projects/tickets?

          How to learn the rest 70%, bieng on a support project where the system has been deployed for around 8 years now. The system is very mature now, the processes of SD have been adapted to nearly as best as they can be in the system.

So how to learn, I mean going through the Manual and Glynn C Williams is ok but kind of gets boring after reading it a couple of times. Altough its not on my fingertips. Keeping in mind what you have stated here

How do we master a module? What tasks, activities do we need to do everyday to become a master at it?

There is "no one-fit all" all answer! You need to find your own ways.

But there is one sure way, keep participating in SD forums, with an objective to learn. And overtime you will improve.

The objective should be constantly at the back of your mind. It is not go impress or gain points or....it is to become better at SD.

Hi TW,

          Went through your blog about chunking. I am already using this technique to learn the database tables and data elements. But the concept of linking is new i have not practised it. Making Headings & Sub Headings this is new i shall practice this.

I will keep in mind the objective is to learn, not to impress or points.
