Hi Everyone,

I hope someone could help me out in selecting an appropriate in SAP for me.

I am Shanmuk from Hyderabad. I have done my B.Tech Mechanical Engineering with 5yrs experience in Mechanical designing (Aviation Base). Now, I am planning to change my career to SAP. Someone said that Production planning (SAP-PP) is suitable for mechanical engineers (In fact, we do have a production planning subject in our final semester). And some said to start with SAP-MM. So, could anyone help me in selecting the right module?

How will be the career growth for mechanical engineers in SAP field after taking the certification and will my experience is useful?

Please help me

Thanks for your time and support

Hi Shanmuk,

SAP is not based on your degree, it is based on your Industry experience.

A Mechanical Engineer can work as Production Engineer, Maintenance team, Service team, Warehouse etc.

Since your experience will not relate to any functional modules like Production Planning, Plant Maintenance, Customer Service or Materials Management, you can opt for BI / BW (very less coding and complete designing). You will be report to develop reports based on the data from SAP and other sources.

All the Best

Terence

Hello Terence,

Thanks for your suggestion.

As you said, "BI / BW (very less coding and complete designing)". Are these modules based on any programming language (c, c++, java etc)? Because I am not familiar with any one of the coding language. So I need to start from basic.

Thanks,
Shanmuk

Hi Shanmuk,

For ABAP coding, C, C++ basic knowledge is enough, but i have seen many functional consultants learn ABAP easily without any hassle in the later stage.

BI/BW has two options, one can be a functional consultant or Techno Functional Consultant. If you play the role has a functional consultant in BI/BW, the coding part will be handled by ABAP consultant.

Always Techno Functional Consultant are in demand compared to Functional Consultant. You can start your career as a functional consultant and learn the coding part in later stage.

All the best

Regards

Terence
