What have I done? was it my mistake to choose a career in SAP as a Fresher?

I may sound depressed but this is the question that have been hitting my brain all the time. I have done training in SAP ABAP for 6 months.. and I was good in that while training my interest towards object oriented programming was increased because of that I have decided to learn WebDynpro ABAP and i did it completely satisfied with my performance during my training. Now I came to know that there are THE less opportunities for freshers in SAP my heart was broken but I didn't lessen my interest towards a good career in SAP every day I didn't stop practicing. But its been almost a year and I still didn't get any opportunity.

Many people suggested to put a fake and I totally disagreed with them . I would like to work in a real organisation with in an ethical manner.( I beg your pardon if there are any mistakes)

Please any moral support would be helpful..including suggestions thank you so much

Hi Nagendra,

i simple question , have you ever seen any person who got any accident and after it he looses his both legs or both hands, if yes then you also have seen that he continues his life struggling with the present scenario and not taking it as a hurdle.

Yes, what i means to say is "Never ever loose your hope", its simple because you don't know when destiny will starts favouring you, i have seen many people struggling in the same manner but aftersome times they become an example for others, so please keep trying, yes i will also never ever supports you to take fake experience certificates, there are many reasons behind it that you can read in blogs.

But what i will suggest you to search your job in small organisations, because they are always in hunt of abapers , and generally they do not posts on any job portals, so what you can do is provide your resume to all local placement agency (but don't hope from it), and with your friend references or with other references , contact every mediun scale industry.......yes it will be difficult but its not impossible.

If you have make a step forward don't look back dear , because sometimes it takes the last key to open the door.

Best of Luck

Hello Nagendra,

I understand your situation but there are opportunities for freshers as well. I have seen people who do not have exp in SAP but they have been recurited on basis of certification.

have you done certification?

you would have already uploaded CV on job portals I guess but did you went for any walkin.

it may be possible that you may not qualify if they need some relavant exp but if you park those things side and attend walkin, you may grab an offer and start your SAP career.

1. Do certification if not done

2. Tag your profile with good words (like Certified Professional)

3. keep note of various walkin that occur

Wish you very Good Luck

Hello Nagendra ,

Would like to share a bit of my very similar experience and  hope it will help you build up your confidence.

I was to be passed out by 2008 but due to some reasons I was able to make my BTech degree by 2009 only .

It was recession time and additionally my non serious nature at that time was piling up a big trouble ( Career Gap ) for me which I was not aware. Did many courses like php , .net and spent dad's bucks like nothing.

Then I came to Delhi for doing course in .net ( again ) but landed with SAP ABAP course from a SAP training institute.

Completed ABAP course of 6 months , used to practice frequently and was very serious this time but somewhere in my mind your same question also tickled me. Continued practicing at the institute itself and thereafter my tutor ( The Great Man whom I owe a Lot ) provided me chance to work in the same institute as tutor . I was not paid , I was to take some of the sections in ABAP which really brushed my knowledge.

I continued this for almost an year ( including my course period )

And one great day from my tutors reference I got a chance to work with a Sugar Manufacturing Company where Implementation was being carried out , they wanted an Internal ABAP Programmer also who could get familiarized with the Developments being carried out.

I cleared the interview , was offered a small package ( though for me it was like getting a Golden Treasure ).

Initial 1 year was very hard , patiently worked with that company for 2.6 years and after that I made a switch to an automotive company ( Presently working ). Got a good hike .

Then new questions started arising in my mind , how to get into an IT company , we manufacturing company ABAP programmers are not given that preference compared to IT people.

Was ready to upgrade my skill ,

Started with Webdynpro , later stopped as I was not able to configure it in my companies system.

Workflow , that too was not able to configure

Adobe form , same reason

then I landed with ABAP OO.

My participation in this super thread

helped me to make the start , started developing Reports and Driver Pgms using OO Programming Paradigm and at last I got a chance to work with SAP Labs now on  payroll of a good company

So what I want to suggest is that  don't set your mind for IT companies  at this initial stage . Try to get into a manufacturing company , make contacts and surely you will land up with a good career very soon.

All the best

I've got 2 calls in the last 8 months at the first call I've cleared all the 4 rounds but didn't get the reply from them and the second one truth to be told I was not able to clear the first round of aptitude (because I've not been concentrated in aptitude since my ICET exam), Later with my friend reference I went a small organisation for the interview they told me work on SAP PI, I simple refused to work , there is a reason behind that for me , I have undergone training almost for 1 year in ABAP and WebDynpro how could'nt work on a module which is not familiar to me.

I uploaded my resume in Naukri, TimesJobs, Shine.com, etc.. and I've searched lot of social networks to be in a race but so many people asked me to pay lot money ( more than 1lac ), I dont whether they are consultancies or not.

That is why I'm feeling bit worried in getting a job as fresher in SAP ABAP.

I would suggest that you buy a few programming books and learn a general Object Oriented program language. There is still demand for JAVA programmers and PHP, Python, and Ruby are also good to learn. Of course there is always C++

I think if you add some general programming skills you will have a better time finding a first job. It might not be SAP, but it could lead to an SAP programming job later on.

Good luck!
