What can I do to start working as a SAP Consultant

Hi

I am 25 years old and a graduate in Business and Information technology. Having graduated three years ago I have had some difficulty getting my ideal job. But during that time I have gained a number of qualifications in PRINCE 2 foundation, ISEB BA, ISEB Project support, ITIL and more recently SAP HANA Application associate. That last one came as a result of my decision to pursue a different career path and specialize in SAP products. However I have been challenged by some difficulties getting a job as a SAP Consultant. The common limitation is the lack of experience which I can only develop with some practical exposure. In response that, I have started another course in SAP BO in order to expand my offerings.

What I would really appreciate is some advice to gain the experience and acquire a job that allows e to practice and develop skills for consultancy.

Please advise

Thank you

Hi Arinze,

Poorna's link is a great one. Please read it carefully as Jon Reed has been writing on this topic for many years. You may also find useful information at SAP Career Blog Links.

In a nutshell, getting a start directly in SAP is very difficult for those who don't get recruited directly out of college. If you miss that critical window, then the most likely path is through using your skills to get a job either in a business role or an IT role at a company that runs sap and then gradually moving into the SAP support role.

Going from zero to SAP consultant is extremely difficult but, oddly, the path upon which most people fixate. To be a consultant, you MUST have experience (or else why would a customer hire you?). Yes, there are exceptions because very large consulting firms *recruit* new hires before they graduate college/MBA, but they rarely take folks who have already graduated.

Also, Basis and programmers tend to have a slightly easier time breaking in after graduation with no or limited experience, but it is still not the primary route. Check the stories from the Blogs for folks interested in Certification or just in learning SAP functionality section, plus the following two blogs

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

--Tom

Thank you very much gentlemen, your responses shed some light on the directions I should follow to accomplish my objectives. I welcome more thoughts on the matter as I feel I am one of many in a similar predicament. Your stories too will help inspire some action from those of us who may be slihtly hesitant.

Hi,

as you have written that, you are getting some difficulty in getting a job in sap,

yes you are right, getting a job as a fresher in sap is somewhat tough.

But could you please explain about your interest , that is you like programming or not,

because if you love programming then you can opt for ABAP module, and if you don't like

programming then , please choose your option withe a interest you have.

If you please tell me about my question, then i think we are able to clarify your query

more specificically.
