To start career as Technical or functional side of SAP

I am a Computer Science Engineering graduate having 5 years of experience in Java,J2EE. I am going to study Management Information Systems in one of leading universities in UK having SAP alliance .

I want to start my career in SAP functional.

My question is which module of SAP fucntional side would be apt for me to start with considering my background in Information Systems ????

Do I have to start my career as SAP Technical person (like Portal side of SAP as its relevant to Java) and enter SAP functional or as a Techno functional personal knowing both Portal and any one functional side of SAP??

Welcome to the world of SAP

According to your backgroud, I suggest you to start from technical side. After working 1-2 years on technical side, you will have enough information on both side and it will be easier to choose the best option for you. Even if you choose the functional side, technical skills you have earned will be plus in you career.

Hi,

start your career with Portal technology, your knowledge s helpful for this. and mainly portal has integration with Functional modules ( MM,FI,CRM like). so you can get a very basic idea about those modules, based on that you can choose a module which can be more suitable for you. or as another option, learn ABAP and get good knowledge on it, then move to any functional module. ABAP with a functional module is always in demand.
