Hi Experts,

Last one year I am working as a core member of SAP PM. Have been instrumental in implementing PM module in two plants of our organisation. Presently working as core member for PM as well as PS modules.

Before this I have 15 years of experience in Plant Maintenence and Projects Execution.

I see three options in front of me at this point

1. Do SAP Certification and look opportunity for SAP PM consultant

2. Look for opportunity in organisations which require SAP Core menber experience

3. Look for opportunity in core domain ie Maintenence or Projects with SAP as additional knowledge base

What will be the better option at this juncture?

Regards,

Sachin S. Kundap

Hi Sachin,

In a module like plant Maintenance, you will find less opportunities as well as less candidates also.

Few of the suggestions are :

1) If possible start with a small or mid-size company.

2) Get some formal training.

3) Catch a mentor from PM module who can guide you.

4) If affordable go for certification.

Good Luck.

Balaji

Hi Sachin,

After having 15 years of experience, I am not sure whether this is really a right move at this point of juncture of your career. I am not discouraging but you need to look into the cost benefit analysis of jumping into SAP career. Furthermore, there may not be ample opportunities in the areas of PM. You may also required to be familiar with PS, PLM and Asset Management areas, as they are all tightly integrated or related.

Please go through the following thread:

Certification may give you better selling point however may not give you a guarantee. You cannot limit yourself to particular industry. When you are looking for job, you should get wherever your get, as SAP experience is really important. If you get a job in consultancy, you should be able to learn number of other areas, as they are dealing with number of projects, you would be able to learn new things in each project.

All the best.

Best Regards,

Ravi
