Hello evey one...

Well am having a lot of confusion in my carrier.

Right now am working as SAP ABAP JUNIOR CONSULTANT

Its around 9 months I have been working in a company(its just a start up company)

I have finished my engineering in electronics and communication,

I have a great passion towards SAP,and I love programming in ABAP.

But I have not been specialised in any modules like HR,MM,SD.

But I have gained some knowledge about programming.

I have done three projects.

The problem is many of my brothers and friends recommend me to be specialised in any of the SAP Modules or else

There will be no chance for me to get a good job in SAP ABAP.

Please tell me what I should do?

In my company we do SAP Projects like document management system, help desk and all.

I even don't know the standard table used for PURCHASE INVOICE OR SOME OTHER RELATED TO THAT.

Please guide or give me a solution.

At the initial stage specialisation is not required. My Advice is to learn ABAP first till you are comfortable and work independently & can analyse the requirement. Then you can concentrate on specialisation.

Once ur in abap for some time automatically u will get Idea & knowledge of Functional module.Incase you dont get then you can learn some functional module.

HI Imran,

What Sai Krishna said its 100% correct,

You learn ABAP first after some days you will comfortable with your subject as well as your requirement.

Concentrate on your specialization, One thing remember today CRM, SCM, HR, FI, HANA, PI, Webdynpro, WF etc... Booming and tomorrow some other new module will come so you can’t shift one to other.

So my idea is concentrate on you specialization and in future you will come to know which module is best and which one you wont to choose and all.

HI imran..

No worries.. u will become a sap abap consultant.

SD or MM flow only takes one day to learn just sit with a functional consultant. You know how to code(logic) that's enough to develop any type of product.

Belief in your self.

Read self confidence books..

Hi Askar,

First of all, welcome to SAP ABAP.

as u said,u love programming so I would say that u have made the  right choice by choosing SAP ABAP. Coming to the specialization part, nobody become a specialist just by working 9 months it will take time, don't worry u have already started working on that so gradually u will understand coding, business cycles, tables etc and gain knowledge and u will become specialist ( ) after some time.

Learn the ABAP first, explore new things,SAP is vast sea,so as much u work/practice u will become good.

All the Best and keep learning.

Congratulations!

You have already taken the first steps in one of the best industries in the world (IT), using one of the best products (SAP) and one of the best programming langauges (ABAP). All IMHO.

Plenty of people would love to be in your position..

Don't worry about functional specialization. I've been doing ABAP for 10 years, and it seems every client I go to, I work on a different module. They all look the same to me: tables and transactions and classes.

But you do need to expand your technical SAP knowledge into other areas like Workflow, Web Dynpro, Smartforms, Adobe, PI, BRF, HANA etc. Plenty to choose from, and they are all pretty cool.

good luck
