Iam from Insurance Sales Domain. How will this domain knowledge help in my SAP SD career? Can any one help me in mapping Insurance sales process to SAP?

Hi,
SD is more about logistics than about selling. It backs up sales, but a salesman would not necessarily make a good SD consultant, while a factory manager could make a very good PP or MM consultant and accountants make good FI-CO consultants. I just do not see where you could fit into SAP, unless in a niche market like Financial Services (and there are opportunities in that niche but you need experience of SAP in that field). The long and short of it is you would be starting from scratch in SAP. My advice would be to forget it.
Insurance companies today are confronted with many challenges: increasing losses partly due to higher costs for claims processing; lower investment revenues due to weak equity markets; and impending loss of market share for organizations where insurance is not the core business, such as the automotive industry.
Their target is to increase revenue and achieve greater profitability while lowering process costs and still attracting more customers to the organization. To achieve this, insurance companies need to develop new sales channels and offer innovative products. Also, proactive improvements in service and claims management are in great demand.
Increasing revenue is especially possible by selling more policies and selling at lower risks. Insurance companies have to identify the right customer segments (high potential, low risk) and to address the right products. This also means reducing time-to-market for new products.

I don't entirely deny the fact that Sales guy fitting in to SAP is tough. But I have many friends with similar background of mine working in SAP and that too with just a arts and science qualification doing a Phenomenal job in SAP. Its all depend on one's capability and determination. Though SAP is a ocean, in certification Just basic SAP Concepts are thought. I didn't feel much difficult in understanding it and also confident of doing well in Practical scenarios too. Infact i was the Batch Topper from SIEMENS. One more reason why i took SAP as a career option is, basically Iam a BE Mechanical graduate with MBA. So i felt easy in understanding all Industrial Jargon's. But thanks for all valuable suggestions, Let me try my luck. Iam confident of making a better career in SAP.
