Hello Gurus,

Can anyone please let me know that which is better, SAP R/3 or SAP Business One as a career. I am getting an opportunity in B1 to start my career with so is it okay if I choose it?

Regards,

Kriti.

Hi,

SAP R/3 is mother of sap business one

sap business one is a ready made package and sap r/3 is more comprehensive ,complex and subdivided  into many components

if you get an oppurtunity in SAP business one you can definitly choose it and slowly move to the main stream

Kriti,

Check out FAQ: What is the best SAP module for me? It's not exactly what you asked, but it makes some relevant points.

As to your specific question: which is best depends on what you like. SAP R/3 is focused on fairly large companies (revenues of $200Million USD annual sales and up. Mostly $500M and above though). SAP B1 focuses on the "small" to "medium" business market (roughly up to $500 Million USD per year annual sales)

Consultants who work on SAP R/3 tend to specialize very strongly. Consultant who do SAP B1 consulting tend to wear a lot more hats since the smaller companies need to implement with far fewer consultants.

The skills are not directly transferable. While SAP likes to say there is a migration path between them, the two programs were born of very different mothers. R/3 was created by the Germans founders of story and legend. SAP purchased B1 from the father of the person who created TopTier (which eventually became SAP Portal after SAP bought both in a single transaction).

The processes and procedures involved in installing/configuring/maintaining are very different. Perhaps they've merged over time, I don't know, but at least in the beginning, they bore no resemblance other than both systems managed businesses.

Will SAP B1 lead to a career in SAP R/3? Not necessarily, but that might be ok as you can certainly carve out a very happy life implementing SAP B1.

Hope this helps!!

Best regards,
