SAP online job applications

Alright so Im a 4th year student from BMS College of Engineering. Il be graduating in 2016 and Im already placed in a certain company.

However SAP has been the aim for about two years now, but as per my college rules , I cant sit for the campus placements anymore because I have an offer in hand, nor am I allowed to refuse to take that offer (yep! *joy*).

So anyway , I was looking forward for the SAP hiring and now I have to apply off campus . Im doing that through SAP's website and their various application procedures and so on. I had done the same thing a year ago when I was looking for internships. Although at the time I wasnt keeping a hawk eye on the status of my application and all that, so I have this notion that the response to each application and by response I do not mean "whether they select you or not" but I mean just the response telling you whether or through to the next round or not is fairly slow. This is my presumption of it though.

I'd like to know from someone who would know better how long I should anticipate before moving onto my next application and if there is any other way to apply because I do not want to leave any stone unturned.

Thanks.

Hello,

What profile you are selected for ? As i understand this is not your choice, as a fresher, that you will work on such and such platform/technology. If a company hires you then they can put you in any profile including technical support. It completely depends on your luck whether you will be trained in SAP or something else after hiring. Companies like Wipro, Infosys hire freshers and trains them in SAP and deploys them in projects under supervision. Mark these: Trains them and deploys them under supervision. No client would want a fresher to do experiments in their live systems.

Now, as you are fresher, its very rare that any company would consider your profile for SAP consultant. I must say almost impossible. I see that you have two options:

1. Either you join any manufacturing company and work there for 3-4 years. This will help you in having domain experience and then jump in SAP.

2. If you are determined to get in SAP. Do the certification, if possible, this will at least make people get impression that you are familiar with SAP. But even with a certification it will be very difficult to get in SAP as a fresher. if you are interested in coding you can try SAP ABAP(non functional). This usually will not require any domain experience.

again best of luck. And more more thing, do not sit relaxed after one offer. Try to get another one. i have seen cases where, even after offer, freshers have to wait indefinitely to join, causing depression.

Regards

Not to rain on your parade, but you are not even in the open job market yet, and do you have any idea of how many people are in the open SAP market, with certifications, experience etc etc?????

".....just the response telling you whether or through to the next round or not is fairly slow"

Applying for jobs needs patience and perseverance.

I remember i have applied to many jobs, where i used to call the agency every single day, but everytime, i was told - "No repsonse from Client yet"

This was after i had nearly 3 years experience with 2 end -to- end implementation projects.

And if im a recruiter, i wouldnt even shortlist your CV - not yet graduated , thats the biggest put down for me.

"......I do not want to leave any stone unturned."

Think from a recruiter perspective, i have a job vacancy in company X and they need someone to start in next month - why do i need to consider your CV.

Apologies if this sounds rude, but it is reality.

My apologies for being unclear.

I am not looking for a role in the functional side , I am applying for a software developer's role.I have been recruited by Fidelity Investments for this profile itself , and I am happy with it as well, but I still owe it to myself to try my best for SAP , like you said , I cant trust one job offer these days.

Do you know my prospects with regard to that area?

Hi,

First thing, if you love coding and has already got offer for similar profile then you should be fine. Not many people are as lucky as you are . Second, Fidelity works in SAP. So join Fidelity and then try to move to SAP within Fidelity. Once you get into any organization and spend 6 months-1 year its not very much difficult to switch technologies.  Last,  ABAP is technical side of SAP meaning coding. In my views coding in ABAP is easier compared to whats in Java. Because its very much user friendly. Again, this may vary from person to person. You have time, so apart from academics spend some time in understanding what is ABAP, how it works, where it fits etc. and if possible go for class room training. There are consultancies which help professional getting placed in companies. But always keep this in mind, freshers do not have much choices. Join linkedin and follow organizations working in SAP, see the job openings for ABAP, read latest blogs. You will come to know what is expected of you as an ABAP consultant. Once you complete your training, create a profile in naukri
