SAP FICO but not a CA (no Finance) tips on how to progress

Hello all,

My name is Alom and I live in US. After graduating from university in Bsc in Computer Science. I obtained a position on a SAP graduate scheme for a major consultancy organisation. The area that I have been assigned is SAP financials.

This scheme is 2-3 year scheme thus giving me the opportunity to study/learn and work. I just wanted to enquire, is it an absolute MUST to be a CA (chartered accountant) to work in SAP FI/CO? I know that being a CA helps immensely in SAP FICO, however is it a necessaity in order to become SAP financials consultant?.

The scheme is 2-3 years and I am treated as "blank Canvas" (and as I am still a young guy) so the organisation is willing to train me up in relation to financial matters/knowledge (send me on finance course) and SAP knowledge.

I guess what I am asking is there hope after the 2-3 years of training in SAP and finance to become a decent junior FI/CO consultant from my background. In addition to that question, without becoming a charterted accountant ?

Hi Alom,

Of course, you can. There is no necessity that an SAP FICO consultant needs to be a CA. It is the experience,

especially the domain experience matters. Even an experienced FICO consultant who is not a CA can fair

better that a CA if the former has good domain experience. So , no worries about becoming a CA. Go ahead,

you can become a successful SAP FICO consultant with 2-3 years of training with real time experience.
